The Newspaper History The Hartselle Enterprise, predecessor to the Hartselle Enquirer, was printed from sometime in the early 1900s to 1933. The Investigator was Hartselle's first newspaper. It was established in 1876. In 1884, the newspaper's name was changed to The Hartselle Index. According to the February 24, 1929, Birmingham News-Age Herald, The Alabama Enquirer was established in 1887 at Hartselle. The paper was subsequently named The Hartselle Enquirer and The Hartselle Enterprise. In 1933, it reverted to The Enquirer and has carried that name since. In March, 1998, Boone Newspapers bought the Hartselle Enquirer. Since that time, the newspaper has grown and worked to provide more information to Morgan County residents. In 2004, the Enquirer was named the best large weekly newspaper in the state by the Alabama Press Association, earning top advertising honors as well. In 2003 and 2004, the newspaper earned more than 40 APA awards.
